- Initiate a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Background Fingerprint Checkout Educator Licensing Online(External Web Content). Background checks must be initiated online through USBE to be accepted. Background checks initiated or completed from other resources do not meet licensing requirements.
- To obtain a CACTUS number, please go to UEN(External Web Content)to register for a UEN account at least 24 hours after initiating a background fingerprint check. Login to your UEN account, go to the Personal Page and then use the CACTUS tool to retrieve your number.
- Submit original transcripts of all colleges/universities you have attended. USBE may accept electronic transcripts only if sent directly from the college/university through a transcript clearinghouse via vog.hatu.sloohcsnull@stpircsnart. More information can be found regarding document submission under the Transcript Submission Policy.
- Complete all four Canvas Modules Associate Educator License Modules(External Web Content), which include Educator Ethics (including the required online Educator Ethics Review), Special Education Law and Instruction, Classroom Management and Instruction, and Utah Effective Teaching
- Content Knowledge Assessment:
- Have a major in the field in which you are seeking licensure: Secondary or Career and Technical Education (CTE) license areas only;or
- Pass the appropriate Educational Testing Service (ETS) Praxis II Content Test(External Web Content). For a list of tests for Utah, please review the Utah State Licensure Test Requirements Draft 2020(PDF File). The applicant must show the test was passed within the time frame that Utah accepted the results and has met the Utah passing score; or
- Submit appropriate CTE certifications of expertise.
Please Note: If you lack significant studies and/or experience in the selected content area(s), you may be required to demonstrate additional competencies in the content area.
- After you have fulfilled the above steps, complete the Google Form Utah Associate Educator License Application(External Web Content).
- If you are uncertain about which test to take or whether or not you need to take the test, you may submit your associate application with only your transcripts and we will determine what test you need to complete based on the license area of your application.
USBE will send an e-mail notification confirming the submission of your application. A second email notification will be sent upon approval of an Associate Educator License.
